Simplify to Amplify Storytelling with New Canon C300 MKIII Upgrades

As a filmmaker, I often believe that less is more. For this reason I am continuously seeking ways to simplify my kit. In most cases by removing technical complexities it allows me to focus more on what truly matters… storytelling. I want to share some recent upgrades to my C300 MKIII kit that align perfectly with this philosophy.

The Upgrades

V-Mount Plate for Canon C500 MKII/C300 MKIII by Full Frame Camera Co.

  • What is it?
A sleek, compact V-Mount/V-Lock battery plate that attaches directly to the back of the camera - no need for rods or additional cheese plates.

  • Functionality
The plate is a masterpiece of efficiency and design. It powers the camera via a low-profile XLR connector, and it’s slim enough to allow for an additional Canon battery underneath so that you can hot-swap while the camera is running.

  • Why I Love It
Full Frame Camera Co. gets it spot on with this plate. I looked at quite a few different options for improving power on my C300 MKIII and this option really stood out for me. I love the low profile power cord and the fact that it’s machined out of metal means it should last well in hectic environments. Allowing me focus more on storytelling and less on power management.

AXIS - Dual Bubble for Canon C300 MKIII/C500 MKII by Full Frame Camera Co.

  • What is it?
A dual bubble levelling tool that attaches to the camera.

  • Functionality
The AXIS adds a level to the camera that is easily visible, unlike the bubble on my tripod head that is usually hidden from view.

  • Why I Love It
It’s a small but clever piece of kit that makes a big difference in setup time and framing.

Mini Monitor Hinge for Canon C300 MKIII/C500 MKII by Wooden Camera

  • What is it?
A sturdy hinge to attach the Canon LCD monitor to the camera body or top handle.

  • Functionality
The hinge replaces the default plastic mount with a more solid option, it's designed to remove any unnecessary bulk from the camera setup.

  • Why I Love It
I know I could use an external monitor but I actually quite like the one that comes with the camera. I’ve got all the buttons and functionality right there so why would I strip that away. The Wooden Camera Mini Monitor Hinge provides even more durability without added weight. It also allows me to use the original microphone mount which is a huge bonus.
